so far I'm leaning 85% to pure druid working at the planer Shepard thing the other 15% says I may find something even more interesting to pursue in game that gives an even better thing to work at over time. also I like the Idea of the fame factor if our party is new in town and were not known I don't expect the town to warm up to us all that quickly but if were from that town or have been doing enough good or bad deeds in other towns for the town to know what kind of party we are I would expect them to act as such.

You have a better chance of becoming famous in a place where you did not grow up.

I`m sure I`m capable of doing it myself with the proper equipment, a mirror, and mage hand.

But grooming would be a bonding experience for dragon and trainer.

Agreed, however I`m relatively certain it`s not against the law for a dragon to groom it`s self.

hehehehehe... Good point, loneshadow.
However, I would expect the academy to encourage trainers to groom their dragons, so as to forge a strong bond between dragon and trainer.
After all, the Draconomicon says dragons are prone to abandon their riders as the riders outpace them in levels. Something would need to be done to mitigate feelings of imbalance, and forming strong emotional bonds could fit the bill.

He indicated already (#78) that trainers should groom their dragons. Did you mean something else? By the way, I'm assuming there's an elixir of some sort the academy uses to accelerate dragon growth rates? That would explain both the speed of our gaining HD/LA payoffs and the need to adventure (activities of some sort are required between applications of the elixir to prevent damage to the dragon's systems).

Yeah, hear that dragons? As soon as the level difference in levels becomes above a certain point, (I'll say 1-2 levels are acceptable, Two other campaigns I've been in have had parties with level differences of 2(or more)) Then you can feel like they are outpacing you in levels. This shouldn't be a problem if you show up or if unable to show up, let your partner run your character or if you create items very inefficiently.
The whole emotional bond thing was something unique about this campaign. When I said it was a "team game."I meant it. Other Dm's only wish their parties would get along. I purposefully put up encounters where 1 person becomes literally worthless and it's up to the others to save the day. There is somewhat of an emotional attachment to your team mate. How annoyed would you be if you're dragon died? Sure I can't make you care, I am sure you will be regretting though spending 100k on anti-acid armor so you could stand in you're dragon's breath and still fight and now you're dragon has a fire breath. There comes a time in all team's lives that they must learn to make individual sacrifices.
In all seriousness, you could treat your dragon as a step-child doing anything less than killing him and still get away with it. Call it, stricter parenting/creative punishment. Earthbind so he cannot go out and fly around/run around for x time, etc. Of course that dragon will grow older/bigger/stronger than you and guess what he (both the dragon and the player) will remember most about the human? I won't spoil some of the other "surprises" but just keep in mind how NPCs will react.

Actually, I thought about it, and that may not apply here. The outpacing is because dragons develop as they gain years, while PCs develop as they gain XP. Since our dragons will be developing based on XP, the ECLs should stay pretty close. Although I would like to start out at ECL7 instead of 5... and would be quite happy for the humanoids to be that ECL, too. It's going to be a long, long, long time before I get my first actual level (not paying of LA), unless our first session is going to involve lots and lots and lots of XP. Getting away with something doesn't mean there won't be consequences. You're right to mention the NPCs, Not You; a trainer could gain a bad reputation by how he or she treats a dragon.

You're like livestock. They feed you growth hormones.
Do me/you a huge favor plz skrey. Call Charles and tell him to call me on my cell. I tried the number I have and a woman picked up saying nobody by the name of Charles/Charlie lives here. BTW I just looked at my cell for the first time and saw you tried to call me yesterday. Do you still need to talk to me?
WOW! This is Hilarious. I was looking up a compiled list of diseases I can randomly have you guys affected with and I came across this 1.
The B*tching Syndrome. Affects only females. DC 20. No save if menstruating, pregnant, or nursing children. Every 8 hours or after any emotional or physical trauma, roll a D30. The character acts in a mood according to the die roll ranging between extreme forms of Happy/Sad/Angry. Men Receive -10 to all checks of diplomacy with a character with this syndrome and Men automatically fail any heal check in order to treat this syndrome. Cure: Usually none but chocolate or sex can make the disease subside for a few hours.
