“Missed by one!”
The GMG HCC welcomes one and all to our events! Below you will find our club charter, rules, and standard tournament formats and guidelines. Thank you for playing, and don’t forget our mantra “Missed by one!”
Club Values
RESPECT: Treat other people with courtesy and decency.
Respect your fellow players. If they are new, help them. Don’t belittle or judge an unskilled player. Set the example.
Respect the venue. Follow the venue’s rules. If the owner or an employee has to remind you about the rules apologize. They are the reason we have a place to play.
Respect the judge. The judge is here to facilitate smooth gameplay and settle rules disputes. Once the judge has ruled, that ruling is final for that tournament, but may be discussed rationally afterwards or before the next game. The judge is human, and might err.
SPORTSMANSHIP: Enjoy the game for its own sake, showing RESPECT, and grace.
Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.
FUN: It’s a game! Enjoy it! Don’t take it too seriously!
Make the game FUN for yourself and your opponent.
Tournament Organization
Rounds start at 510pm.
Pregame starts at 415pm. Pregame includes doing your buy ins, drafting your teams, etc.
Table set up is finalized at 4:55pm, with players assigned to tables.
Rounds will be 40 minutes in length.
Battle Royal will be 120 minutes in length.
Late Arrivals: Any player showing up before 5:30 but after table set up may buy in and draft as normal taking a first round forfeit (if multiple rounds are being played, please see tournament formats for information) and might still be eligible for prize support including fellowship depending on format. Any player arriving after 530 may still buy in in order to receive participation prizes but will not be eligible for fellowship or other prizes.
Tournament Formats
Format will depend on number of players (not including the judge) at time of table set up.
4 players or less: Battle Royal played on 1 table. 1 Round. Late players may buy in as normal and play a separate battle royal or 1v1 game (space permitting) and be eligible for fellowship, but not 1st or 2nd place prize support.
More than 4 players: 3 standard rounds. Late players arriving before 5:30 may buy in as outlined above.
Pairings will be random to start (with effort to ensure that people who arrived together do not play against each other in the first round) and then will follow Swiss format from there on (winners v winners, losers v losers, etc).
In the event of an uneven number of players the odd player will take a bye and receive a draw. Players may only receive a bye once per tournament.
Scoring (Unless Specified by Event Rules)
Win: 4 Points
Draw: 2 points
Loss: 1 point
Forfeit: 0 points
Determining Winners / Losers
Match
A KO’d figure is worth its points value to the player who KO’d it. In a Battle Royal players other than the Owner and the player performing the KO get 20% of its points rounded down. (A 75pt figure then would award 75pts to its KO opponent and 15pts to each other opponent)
The winner will be the player with the highest # of points at the end of the match.
Tournament
Players will be ranked by Win/Draw/Loss scores. The player with the highest number of points will take 1st place, the player with the next highest will take 2nd place. In the event of a tie the player whose opponents scored the most points will be declared the victor. This is known as strength of schedule. In the event of a secondary tie (both players have the same VP and same SoS) the winner will be determined by coin flip.
Prize Support
All participating players will receive participation prizes based on availability.
Grand Prizes: Depending on availability 1 grand prize will be awarded to the player who placed 1st. If available a second prize will be awarded to the player who placed 2nd. 1 prize will also be awarded as fellowship to 1 random player who did not otherwise win a 1st / 2nd place prize. 1 prize will also be rewarded to the judge who may, at his discretion, make that available as a 2nd fellowship prize.
Season Prizes (Infinity Crisis Thanos, No Man’s Land Batcave, etc)
The top 3 overall players for the season at the end of the last tournament will have their names entered into a raffle and the prize will be randomly rewarded. If multiple prizes are available 1 extra name will be added to the raffle for every 2 additional prizes based on performance. 1 season prize will be reserved by the store for the season judge who may, at her discretion, make that available as part of the raffle.
Disqualifications / Penalties
Players may be disqualified or suffer penalties for any of the following:
Breaking the store or club rules / charter. This includes excessive cursing, displaying unsportsmanlike behavior, disruptive behavior, insulting your opponent, etc.
Turtling / Refusing to engage / Delay of Game: This is where a player refuses to attempt to engage another player in order to run down the clock. It is preferable for an opponent to concede a loss to the other player or offer to let them concede than to waste his time. A warning will be issued, and an offer to concede to your opponent or end the match. Continued behavior will result in a Forfeiture of the match. Note: It is always preferable to concede for a Loss (1pt) than to receive a Forfeiture (0pts).
Attempting to cheat (including looking at dials online during the game, turning dials after the game to prevent opponents from scoring points for high value figures below 50% health, etc)
Other infractions to be determined.
Except in particularly egregious situations a warning will be issued. In the event of a second infraction a penalty will be incurred. If more than 1 penalty would be incurred during 1 tournament it will result in immediate disqualification.
Repeated penalties over several tournaments may incur being banned from future tournaments.
Penalties include (but are not limited to)
Forfeiture of the match (0pts)
Disqualification from the tournament.
Being banned from 1 or more future tournaments.
Being banned from the store.
